Global demand for Cinnamon is rising every year especially the highest grade from the best source of 'true' cinnamon (Cinnamomum zeylanicum) that is cultivated and native to Sri Lanka. The export potential of Cinnamon not only as a spice but also as a value add to cosmetic, pharmaceutical and fragrance industries through the use of its essential oils, oleoresins, and isolates is immense .

COCONUT PRODUCTS

Coconut is a major commercial crop of Sri Lanka with over 416,253 ha in cultivation. Likewise it is exported in varying forms. 100% pure concentrate of coconut kernel without artificial flavours or preservatives is exported for use in curries and desserts. Desiccated coconut, made out of coconut kernel, is used in the confectionery industry. Bristle fibre (long fibre) or bristle fibre mixed with omatt fibre (short fibre) mats are made out of coir twine or yarn or coir fibre mixed with jute yarn by local cottage industry which supplies to the global demand. Charcoal Briquettes, made out of coconut shell, is especially processed for outdoor and indoor barbeques as well as for domestic heating. Coconut shell is the raw material used for the manufacture of activated carbon. Coconut shell charcoal, unlike wood and coal, is not chemically activated and is therefore ideally suited for use in food processing and the manufacture of medicines.

NATURAL RUBBER

Traditionally Sri Lanka has been exporting rubber as a commodity since rubber plantations came in to existence approximately 125 years ago. Sri Lanka is the first Asian country to grow and establish rubber plantations for commercial production. Due to its strong association from a historical perspective, the country remains an important producer and contributor to the global natural rubber market.
